27-year-old Kylie Bamberger recently tied the knot with the love of her life and walked down the aisle confident and radiant with her adoring family watching. This bridal entrance isn’t what makes Kylie unique, and it wasn’t a specially crafted designer dress that drew our attention to her story.
Kylie has Alopecia, a condition that attacks the immune system and causes hair loss across the body. Diagnosed with the disorder in high-school, Kylie slowly lost her hair, her eyebrows, and even her eyelashes . For years, Bamberger tried to cover up the hair loss with short cropped styles, hats, and eventually wigs but in college everything changed.
Bamberger decide to embrace her baldness and found freedom in the move, her social media presence reflected her new found confidence and it wasn’t long before she had a host of supportive followers. After nearly five years without a wig she wasn’t going to don one for her upcoming nuptials.
In an interview with Inside Edition just last week, Bamberger told the outlet, “There was no way I was going to wear a wig at my wedding.” Much of her Instagram presence is focused on embracing life with Alopecia and the joy that can come from standing out and being different. So on her big day Bamberger wore a simple headband and a smile and the stunning photos don’t do her justice!
Kylie models and gives motivational speeches when her schedule allows for it, helping others deal with their hair loss and the lack of confidence it can create has become a personal mission. “When I lost my hair, I was so focused on what I had lost, that I hadn’t necessarily realized what I had gained,” she said in a video for the social media campaign #WhatIModel in February. “I had gained the ability to finally love myself. It’s something I encourage so many others to try and do. No one should ever be alienated because of the way that they look.”
