This heartwarming story will restore your faith in the world.

It is hard to be the new kid in school, add being from a different country and not speaking English into the mix and you’ve got one tough situation. This is exactly where Rafael Anaya found himself after moving to California from Mexico.

One girl, Amanda Moore, noticed at lunch time that Rafael was sitting all alone and that in general, he had no friends. She decided to do something so cute that it melted our hearts – Amanda used Google Translate to write Rafael a letter in Spanish inviting him to be her friend and sit with her at lunch. The letter read:

“Would you like to sit with me today? Look for me and I will show you where I sit. We can color or simply tell scary stories. Thank you for your time.”

It looks like the letter worked, since Amanda’s mom has said that her daughter and Rafael have become firm friends. They often play at each other’s houses, with the language barrier not being an issue.

We think that this story is just so adorable and shows that kids and technology can often come up with genius results that no one could ever have imagined. Let’s hope other kids follow Amanda’s lead in making foreign classmates feel welcome.
